1959 AL Standings and League Leaders

 August 15, 1959
It's halfway through the month of August. The Detroit Tigers relinquished their hold on 1st place at the end of July to the Cleveland Indians and are now 3.5 GB. The Chicago White Sox are also more in the picture for the top spot in the AL, trailing the Indians by just 4.5 games.
Detroit's Charley Maxwell is putting together a career best season at the plate. Teammate's Al Kaline and Harvey Kuenn are putting together fine seasons themselves.

1959 NL Standings

 August 15, 1959

It's halfway through the month of August in the 1959 season and the Milwaukee Braves still hold the top spot in the NL. But the large lead they've had for most of the season has dwindled to 5.5 games over the 2nd place Los Angeles Dodgers. LA has really heated up. After going a league best 21-6 in July, they are a league best 8-2 so far in August.
Milwaukee's Hank Aaron (.359 BA, 39HR, 98 RBI) is still on a pace to win the Triple Crown. Pitcher Don Drysdale (18-7, 2.54 ERA, 182K) along with improved pitching from Sandy Koufax and Johnny Podres is a big reason the Dodgers have been coming on strong.
