1959 AL Opening Day Game

 April 9, 1959

   As is tradition, the Washington Senators opened the 1959 AL season by hosting the Baltimore Orioles. In a very close and interesting contest, the hometown Senators walked off with a 9th inning 4-3 victory. Reno Bertoia hit a sacrifice fly scoring Ron Samford with the winning run for the Senators. Pedro Ramos went the distance on the mound and got the Win. Jack Harshman took the Loss.

Pedro Ramos tossed a complete game at Griffith Stadium as the Washington
Senators won in their last at-bat beating the Baltimore Orioles by the count
of 4 to 3.
 
The game was won by Washington with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Ron Samford doubled.  Ramos next to the plate and he reached on an
error.  Reno Bertoia then hit a deep fly giving Washington the victory and
sending the 5,233 home-town fans home happy.  Both teams totaled 6 hits on
the afternoon.  
 
Ramos(1-0) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Jack
Harshman(0-1) ended up with the loss.  He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 and
2/3 innings.
