1959 NL Game: LA @ Phil.

July 19. 1959

Larry Sherry of the LA Dodgers had a performance he won't soon forget as LA defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 12-5 today. Sherry had a great game on the mound and at the plate. The starter for the Dodgers went 4 for 4 at the plate with 8 RBI. 2 of his hits were homeruns. He also went 7 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs while picking up his 3rd Win of the season. The 8 RBI for Sherry is 2nd to the most in a game in the NLthis season. St. Louis's Stan Musial had 9 in a game earlier this month. The victory for LA moved them into a 2nd place tie with Cincinati.

Larry Sherry slammed 2 homeruns and had 8 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers
bested the Philadelphia Phillies 12 to 5 at Shibe Park.

Sherry enjoyed a great day at the plate. He belted a three-run homer in the
2nd inning, doubled plating all three baserunners in the 3rd inning, smacked
a single in the 5th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in
the 6th inning. Los Angeles had 14 hits overall, while Philadelphia had 11.

The victory was credited to Sherry(3-0) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Ray Semproch(2-11) took the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and
2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Sherry said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'
