1959 Opening Day in Detroit

 April 10, 1959

The Detroit Tigers opened the 1959 season today against the Chicago White Sox. It was a cold, rainy day in Detroit but that didn't affect the crowd turnout. 37,000 people got to watch the Tigers rap out 15 hits while defeating the White Sox 6-3. Detroit put 3 runs on the scoreboard in the 6th inning, 2 on a Eddie Yost homer. Jim Bunning went the distance for the Tigers allowing only 4 hits while striking out 6. Bunning helped his own cause by hitting a triple and a homerun.
