June 15, 1959
It's halfway through the month of June in the NL. The Milwaukee Braves are still in 1st place and are pulling away from the pack. The Brave's pitching has been outstanding and their hitting has been very good. Warren Spahn is 12-0 and Hank Aaron (.335, 20, 52) continues to make a bid for the Triple Crown. St. Louis Cardinal 3rd baseman, Ken Boyer (.332, 18, 49), is making a bid himself. Boyer's teammate Joe Cunningham is hitting .348, tied with Cincinnati's Gus Bell for best BA in the NL.
The San Francisco Giants are in 2nd place, 8 games back and the Cincinnati Reds are 8.5 back. The Giants have been getting a combination of good pitching and hitting. The Reds have the highest scoring offense in the league but their pitching has been mediocre. After the top 3 teams, every other team is below .500. LA's Don Drysdale is the only other pitcher with double digit Wins (10). He's also tops in Strikeouts with 92. Milwaukee's Bob Buhl has the top ERA (2.07).
