While the Cleveland Indians had already clinched 1st place in the AL, the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers faced off for the last game of the season tied for 2nd place.
Paul Foytack took the hill for Detroit in search of his 20th Win of the year. The game was scoreless until the 5th inning when the Tigers tallied 3 runs, 2 on Frank Bolling's 14th homerun. Al Kaline drove in 2 runs in the 8th, giving him 127 RBI on the year.
Detroit went on to win the game 5-1, Foytack got his 20th victory, and the Tigers (87-67) finished in 2nd place, 1 game ahead of the White Sox (86-68).

Second baseman Frank Bolling hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the
Detroit Tigers bested the Chicago White Sox 5 to 1 at Briggs Stadium.
Paul Foytack(20-12) pitched a fine game. He went 6 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 1 walk. Detroit rapped out 10 hits for the
afternoon.
Ray Narleski was credited with his 3rd save. Bob Shaw(9-12) suffered the
