October 2, 1959
The Cleveland Indians held home field advantage and won Game 2 today against the Milwaukee Braves 7-4. Both teams came out swinging the bats on another bleak, overcast, rainy day. Gary Bell started for the Indians while Lew Burdette got the ball for Milwaukee. The Braves scored single runs in each of the first 3 innings while Cleveland got 2 in the 1st.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, trailing 3-2, the Indians scored 4 runs chasing Burdette from the mound. 2 of the runs came on Rocky Colavito's first homerun in the Series. The Braves got another run in the 6th on Del Crandall's leadoff homer making the score 6-4. After the next batter singled, Cleveland manager Joe Gordon had seen enough from Bell and replaced him on the mound.
Both teams had numerous chances to score throughout the game, but only Cleveland picked up another run, in the 8th inning. In the top of the 8th, Milwaukee had put runners on 1st and 2nd when lefty Herb Score was brought in to face hot hitter Billy Bruton and power slugger Eddie Mathews, both lefthand batters. Score got Bruton to popout and got Mathews to hit into a force play. Dick Brodowski pitched the last 1 1/3 innings for the Save.
The Series will now move to Milwaukee for the next 3 games (if necessary) after a day off, with Cleveland holding a 2-0 advantage in the best of 7 Series.
