1959 AL Game: Bal. @ Det.

 April 29, 1959

   The Detroit Tigers pounded the Baltimore Orioles today 13-2. Al Kaline had a fantastic day at the plate. He was 4 for 5 with 6 RBI. Detroit exploded for 9 runs in the 7th inning to put this game out of reach for the Orioles. Kaline had 2 hits in the 7th, 1 which was a Grand Slam homerun. The 6 RBI are the most for a player in any game this season in the AL. Frank Lary pitched well for his 2nd Win this year. 
  Detroit is now 8-6 on the season, good for 2nd place in the AL. In actual play in the 1959 season, Detroit had an awful 2-12 start.

Al Kaline had 4 hits as the Detroit Tigers ballclub embarrassed the reeling
Baltimore Orioles by the count of 13 to 2.
 
Kaline provided much of the offense.  He lined a base-hit which was good for
two runs in the 1st inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 5th inning, ripped
a base-hit in the 7th inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a
Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning.  Detroit finished with 18 hits while
Baltimore ended up with 7.  
 
Frank Lary(2-1) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Arnie
Portocarrero(0-2) ended up with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing
10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
Wth the win Detroit now has a record of 8-6.  With the loss, the Baltimore
ballclub's record is 5-10, worst in the league.
