1959 AL Game: NY @ Was.

 April 23, 1959

  In the best pitched game so far in either league, the Washington Senators got by the New York Yankees 1-0 today. Russ Kemmerer (1-2) allowed only 1 hit in his shutout Win. Bob Turley (0-2) was the hard luck loser for NY. He only allowed 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 8. But one of the hits he allowed was a homerun by Reno Bertoia in the 6th inning.

Russ Kemmerer allowed only 1 hit resulting in a big goose egg on the
scoreboard for New York at Griffith Stadium where the Washington Senators
beat the New York Yankees by the score of 1 to 0.
 
Kemmerer(1-2) escaped virtually unscathed against the New York hitters.  He
surrendered only 1 hit and 4 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.30
to 2.66.  Washington managed only 2 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The losing pitcher was Bob Turley(0-2).  He pitched 7 innings giving up only 2
hits and 1 walk.
