1959 AL Game: Det. @ Was.

 June 21, 1959

  Detroit's Jim Bunning pitched his best game of the season today against the Washington Senators. Bunning struck out 14 batters, going the distance as the Tigers won a pitching duel with Camilo Pascual 2-1. The 14 K's are the most by any pitcher in a game so far in this 1959 MLB season. Washington outhit Detroit 5-3, but Bunning was able to spread them around. For Detroit, it was their 40th Win of the year.

Jim Bunning retired 14 batters on strikeouts as the Detroit Tigers defeated
the Washington Senators 2 to 1 at Griffith Stadium.
 
Bunning(9-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Washington offense.
He gave up just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.59 to
3.39.  Detroit had only 3 hits for the game.  
 
Camilo Pascual(8-4) was the loser.  'He came out with good stuff,' Jimmy Dykes
said about Bunning. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch on.'
