1959 NL Game: Mil. @ LA Spahn loses 1st Start

 June 17, 1959

   Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves lost his 1st game of the season tonight, 1-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Spahn, 12-1, lost the pitching duel with Sandy Koufax. Koufax allowed 4 hits and struck out 9 in his 8 innings of work, getting the Win. Clem Labine worked the 9th inning, getting a Save for the Dodgers. 
   It was a good day for LA as they took both games in the doubleheader against the 1st place Braves.

In a game for the baseball purist, Sandy Koufax(4-3) and Warren Spahn(12-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Los Angeles Dodgers finally emerged
victorious over Milwaukee Braves, 1 to 0.
 
The game was won by Los Angeles when they scored a run in the bottom of the
8th inning.  After an out was recorded, Jim Gilliam lined a one-base hit.
Charlie Neal stepped into the batter's box and he doubled scoring the run.
Los Angeles had 7 hits overall, while Milwaukee had 4.  
 
Koufax was helped out by Clem Labine who recorded his 3rd save.
