September 2, 1959
The first game of 2 today at Comiskey Park in Chicago was played in very poor weather. It seemed to effect Detroit's Rocky Bridges the most as he committed 2 errors that helped the White Sox defeat the Tigers 7-4.
Chicago got a run in the 1st, and 1 in the 4th on a homer by Sherm Lollar who hit 2 yesterday. Detroit bounced back with a run in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. They had a chance to tie it in the 6th, but Eddie Yost was thrown out at the plate by leftfielder Al Smith.
The White Sox broke the game open in the bottom of the 7th when they tallied 4 runs for a 7-2 lead. The big hit for Chicago was a 2 out 2-run triple by Louis Aparicio. Detroit got 2 back in the 8th, but Turk Lown came in and shut them down the rest of the way for his 17th Save of the season.
With the Win, Chicago moves into 1st place past the Cleveland Indians who lost today. Detroit will get another shot at Chicago in Game 2 tonight.
