The Chicago White Sox ended up sweeping the big 3 game series against the Detroit Tigers by winning the 2nd game of today's double-header 3-2. Detroit trailed 3-1 entering the 9th inning and loaded the bases with a single and 2 walks with nobody out. Gerry Staley came on in relief and walked the first batter he faced, forcing in a run to make it 3-2. Then Staley bared down and got a strikeout, popout and flyout to Save the Win for Chicago.
With the victory, Chicago increased their AL lead over Cleveland to 1.5 games while the Tigers dropped to 4.5 games behind the 1st place White Sox.

Barry Latman had an impressive outing as the Chicago White Sox defeated the
Detroit Tigers by the score of 3 to 2 at Comiskey Park.
Chicago took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring a
single run. Al Smith cracked a solo homerun. Detroit had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.
Latman(7-8) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Gerry Staley
earned his 7th save. Paul Foytack(15-11) took the loss. He allowed 6 hits
and 4 walks in 7 innings.
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Jimmy Dykes after the game.
'We lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions every
Little Leaguer hears every day.'
